Shots 3-0 Halifax

Aldershot Town climbed up to 18th in the National League after a dominating 3-0 victory against Halifax Town on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Adam May, Adam McDonnell and Jake Gallagher earned Gary Waddock’s side three vital points in a rain-soaked encounter.

The hosts got off to a scintillating start with a sublime team goal after just eight minutes. McDonnell’s driven pass found Gallagher with the midfielder surging forward to the bar line before picking out the on-rushing May who tucked the ball into the bottom corner from close range.

Then in the 20th minute it got even better for the Shots. Matt McClure drifted to the left-wing and delivered a fantastic cross as McDonnell tucked a volley home for an unassailable 2-0 lead.

The visitors best chance of the half came from Nathan Clarke who missed a golden opportunity to pull his side back into the contest as the Halifax skipper’s header skimmed wide of the post after a great delivery from James Berrett.

Reminiscent of the first half, Aldershot came out of the blocks the faster team after the interval. Halifax goalkeeper Sam Johnson made a meal of punching the ball away from danger following a looped cross into the area. Gallagher took advantage of the mistake as the 25-year-old made it 3-0 with the header sailing into the opposing corner of the goal.

Despite Jordan Preston coming near to a consolation for Halifax having hit the bar in the 77th minute, the away side surrendered to a winless run stretching to eight games.

The Shots go into a Hampshire derby away to Eastleigh next Saturday hoping to build off this impressive string of performances.
