Staines Town v The Shots: match preview

Aldershot Town send a youthful squad, managed by Professional Development Coach Patrick Ryan, to face Johnson Hippolyte’s Staines Town at Wheatsheaf Park tonight, kick-off 7.30pm.

The Swans finished 12th in the Isthmian League Premier Division last season, and have begun their pre-season programme well, with a draw against Maidenhead United and victory at Bedfont Sports.

The arrivals of Lewis Driver and Ben Martin from Hendon and Welling United, plus the return of prolific Chelmsford City striker Elliott Buchanan, are the highlights of Hippolyte’s summer transfer dealings so far. Goalkeeper Jack Turner is the only high-profile departure, to Slough Town.

Former Shot Max Worsfold was the 2016-17 Player of the Year, with Mohamed Bettamer top scorer, and both have re-signed for the new season.

Hippolyte, who managed Maidenhead United for nine years, made 28 appearances for The Shots in 1997-98, and scored 12 goals.

Admission is £8 for adults and £4 for seniors, Under 16s and students. Babes-in-arms, carers accompanying disabled fans, and any serving member of the UK Armed Forces are admitted free. Proof of eligibility will be required. The Swans Sports Bar at Wheatsheaf Park is open to Shots fans before and after the match.
