Shots Support Knights’ Route 66 Challenge

Tony Knights, former Aldershot Town Director and founder of Club sponsors Knights Group, will run and cycle over 1000 miles along America’s legendary Route 66 next February to raise money for armed forces charity UK Homes 4 Heroes.

Tony, who himself served in the British Army for 23 years, aims to raise over £6000 on the marathon two-week journey, which starts in Chicago. He will then cover over 100 miles in each of the eight US states through which Route 66 passes: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Other cities which Tony will visit include St Louis, Springfield, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Amarillo, Tucumcari, Albuquerque, Holbrook, Williams and Las Vegas, before finishing in Santa Monica. Both of Tony’s bikes, plus his support vehicle, will display the Aldershot Town badge throughout the journey.

UK Homes 4 Heroes was founded in 2010 in response to the plight of homeless ex-service personnel, with estimates suggesting that over 4500 former members of the British Armed Forces are currently sleeping rough; a figure which is expected to rise with planned MOD cuts in the near future.

UK Homes 4 Heroes aims to provide hostel-style accommodation for ex-service personnel and a safe, clean-living environment where they can feel secure and at home. The charity also helps clients to gain a permanent home through social housing and provides counselling services for people with psychological disorders such as depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
