Rhys On Caribbean Cup Trail

Rhys Browne has been recalled to the Antigua and Barbuda squad for two CFU Caribbean Cup qualifying fixtures.

The Benna Boys host Aruba at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Wednesday 23 March, kick-off 7.30pm local time, before travelling to the Warner Park Stadium in Basseterre to face St Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday 29 March at 8pm local time.

Having played a round-robin set of fixtures between the three teams in Group 1, the top two sides progress to the second round. From there, each of the four group winners in the third round, played during October 2016, will qualify for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, held in the USA in July.

Antigua and Barbuda’s initial 42-man squad for the two ties featured several other British-based players, including Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Blackstock, Woking’s Kieran Murtagh, Millwall’s Mahlon Romeo, Calaum Jahraldo–Martin of Hull City, Bromley’s Aaron Tumwa, Zaine Francis-Angol of Kidderminster Harriers, Duran Martin of Banbury United, Oxford United’s AJ George, Reading’s Dominic Samuel and Nathaniel Jarvis of Hungerford Town.

Rhys, who has two caps to his name, will miss our Easter matches against Forest Green Rovers and Braintree Town but will return in time to face Barrow on Saturday 2 April.
