Reade Signs and Vanarama Make A Great Team!

Two of Aldershot Town’s biggest supporters have combined to create a winning team and a fantastic new look.

Reade Signs, one of Aldershot Town’s longest-serving sponsors whose name adorns the South Stand at the EBB Stadium, have designed and installed the signage at National League sponsors Vanarama’s new headquarters in Hemel Hempstead.

Having outgrown their original premises, Vanarama – one of the UK’s leading van leasing specialists – recently moved into larger headquarters and wanted to make an impact with the refurbishment programme to announce their arrival.

Recognising that the new signage had to express more than Vanarama’s branding, Reade Signs’ brief was to turn a tired, unattractive and unwelcoming building into bright new offices that would feel welcoming not only to customers but to staff and suppliers too.

With an immediate rapport built through a common passion for football, Reade Signs were able to deliver a creative solution – but it wasn’t without a few challenges on the way!

Operating long hours, seven days a week, Vanarama required illuminated signage, and with black lettering featuring heavily in their logo, the desire to backlight black text was not easily achieved.

However, using their many years of experience in sourcing the best materials, Reade Signs found a specialist acrylic that appears black in daylight but changes colour, in this case to white, when illuminated. With rimless letters to ensure a crisp, clean look both by day and night, Reade ensured that the whole face is constantly illuminated.

Vanarama also wanted to make a big statement with a five-metre-high monolith, which required planning permission and structural engineering drawings for the foundations, as well as a detailed electrical plan. Reade Signs has installed many monoliths in varying locations, from shopping centres and business parks to university campuses, and are able to advise all customers how to use them to make the biggest impact for their brand.

Also able to apply for all necessary planning permissions as part of their project management service, Reade Signs take care of all the details and difficulties so customers don’t have to worry about any of it. The monolith had to be built in several sections at the Reade Signs’ factory on Holder Road, off North Lane, a process which allowed Vanarama to update their messaging quickly and cheaply. Reade were even able to make a design feature of the jointing, lighting that up, too.

In addition, Vanarama also has a back-illuminated bus shelter-sized poster case on both sides of the monolith allowing them to promote special offers, show when they are recruiting or even to congratulate the League winners at the end of the football season!
