Gunner Groves Graces Shots Sportsmans Dinner

Aldershot Town are delighted to welcome Arsenal legend Perry Groves as special guest at the Club’s annual Sportsmans Dinner on Friday 3 November at Farnborough’s Village Hotel.

The black tie event is one of the Club’s annual fundraisers and a highlight of the local social calendar. From 7pm, guests will enjoy a pre-dinner drinks reception and delicious three-course meal, before joining the ebullient winger in remembering a fascinating era at Highbury.

Part of the Gunners’ side which famously won the Division One title at Anfield in 1989, Groves had been George Graham’s first Arsenal signing and went on to make 155 appearances. Having previously won the 1987 League Cup Final at Wembley, in his first season at Highbury after joining from Colchester United for £50,000 in September 1986, Groves again won the League title in 1991.

His Arsenal team-mates included Tony Adams, Ian Wright, Paul Merson, Charlie Nicholas, David Rocastle and David Seaman, whilst his move to Southampton in August 1992 saw him play alongside Matt Le Tissier.

Now a successful pundit with both BBC Five Live and TalkSPORT, Groves has retained cult status amongst Arsenal fans and readily admits: “I know I wasn’t the greatest player in Arsenal history but I was part of that history, and that is something no one can ever take away from me”.

Groves is joined on the bill by hilarious comedian Gary Gobstopper, a veteran of the holiday entertainment circuit from Tenerife to Puerto Rico. His new show ‘Blue and Unstoppable’ is a high-energy, adults-only comedy experience with non-stop gags, sketches, dancing and more. Gary’s look at life in the sun is hilarious and his take on Club singers, boy-bands and even Elvis Presley are a must-watch!

The evening will also feature some amazing raffle prizes and an auction. For those needing a midnight snack, bacon butties will be served as the bar stays open until late.

Tickets are £60 + VAT each, with tables of ten available for businesses, groups or friends, and can be booked by calling Aldershot Town FC on 01252 320211 or emailing mark.butler@theshots.co.uk.
