On Penney’s sigining, Assistant Manager, Hugo Langton said: “Matt has trained with us since we returned to pre season training and he’s impressed us staff throughout.”

“He’s the type of player who suits our playing style and also he’s a good bloke who has fitted straight in with our existing players. He’s had plenty of experience of playing at higher levels and we are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the team this season.”

Head of Recruitment, Jamie Hedges, added: “We’re delighted to get Matt signed on. He’s been in with us since the first day of pre season at his own expense, has shown great application and his fitted into the group seamlessly.”

“He’s no doubt an EFL footballer who’s had a difficult year or two, who now just wants to play football and we both believe we can be a good fit for each other. He’s a left sided defender, comfortable in possession, steps out well with the ball, and is a great communicator and leader.”

Welcome to the Shots, Matt!
