WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?
The Shots kick off the 2023/24 Vanarama National League season against newly promoted Oxford City at the EBB. The Hoops will be playing their first division after promotion from the National League South.
HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?
Oxford City finished the regular National League South season in 3rd place, setting them up for a play-off semi-final home clash. 2 games and 2 clean sheets against Worthing and St Albans later and Oxford were promoted, beating St Albans 4-0 in emphatic fashion in the National League South playoff final at the RAW Charging Stadium
NEW SHOTS
Ethan Burnett had been a trialist at the Shots all summer, and his contract became a permanent one earlier this week. His signing was added to by the addition of Haji Mnoga, who returned to the Shots on a season long loan after making himself a bit of a fans favourite towards the end off last season. A third signing came earlier today, as Olly Scott joined from Kings Lynn Town, having made 20 appearances in the National League in 2021/22.
OUR PREPARATION:
Aldershot ended pre-season in emphatic fashion, picking up victories against League Two side Sutton United and a Chelsea XI. The Shots other encounter at the EBB Stadium produced a good performance but not the result Tommy Widdrington’s side deserved in a 2-1 loss to League One side Wycombe Wanderers. The Shots earned victories against Badshot Lea, AFC Sudbury and AFC Totton, and picked up some important minutes in a 1-1 draw against Farnborough.
