MATCH PREVIEW: Aldershot Town v Dover Athletic (H)

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Dover Athletic, also known as The Whites. Founded 1983

HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?

The Whites were the only National League side not to complete the 2020-21 season. As a result they were fined £40k and ordered to start this season on minus 12 points.

HOW DID SHOTS GET ON AGAINST THEM LAST SEASON?

The two sides only met once last season, at Crabble, in October 2021. The Shots won 5-0 on the evening, with braces from Josh Rees & Mo Bettamer plus one goal from Harry Panayiotou. The result was however, eventually expunged from the records due to Dover not completing the season.

WHO’S THEIR GAFFER?:

55-year-old Andy Hessenthaler took over as Dover Athletic manager in October 2018, following the sacking of long term boss Chris Kinnear. It is Hessenthaler’s second spell in charge of The Whites, having won 101 of his 154 games in charge in his first spell with the club (2007-2010). A former player himself, Hessenthaler made almost 500 combined appearances at Watford & Gillingham. He has also managed Gillingham, Leyton Orient and Eastleigh.

PLAYING SQUAD:

Just five players remain at Crabble who were at Dover last season. They are keeper Josh Bexon, Left Back Sam Wood, midfielders TJ Bramble & Marshall Wratten and winger Travis Gregory. Hessenthaler brought 17 new faces into his playing squad for the start of the 2021-22 season, some of which have moved on already, including forward Ricky Miller who is now at Grantham Town. Amongst those still at Crabble are keeper Adam Parkes (season loan from Watford), defenders Seth Twumasi (Maidenhead) & Danny Collinge (Colchester), Koby Arthur (Birmingham) & Ryan Hanson (Hull) and forwards Aaron Cosgrove (season loan from Wimbledon) and former Shots loanee Alfie Pavey, who is on loan from Maidstone and in the space of a few weeks has already become Dover’s top scorer this season, with four goals. Other recent signings include; Defender Myles Judd (Leyton Orient) and Winger Michael Gyasi, on loan from Kings Lynn to the end of this season.

ANY EX-SHOTS?

Centre Back Jake Goodman played 21 times for Aldershot Town – on loan from Millwall – in the 2013-14 season.  Two former Shots have moved on since the start of the season, Yannis Drais and the aforementioned Miller.

WHO’S GOT THE WHISTLE?

Tuesday’s referee is Paul Johnson, who has taken the middle in just 2 National League games this season, showing 4 Yellow Cards and 0 Red Cards.
