WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?
Barnet FC, also known as The Bees. Founded 1888.
HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?
The Bees finished 22nd of 22 teams in last season’s National League, with 31 points from 42 matches played. However, they retained their place in the National League as there was no relegation last season.
HOW DID SHOTS GET ON AGAINST THEM LAST SEASON?
Both sides won their home matches against each other last season. In February 2021, goals from Jamie Sendles-White and Mo Bettamer saw The Shots prevail 2-1 at the EBB Stadium. Then in April 2021, The Bees beat Aldershot Town 3-1, with Harry Panayiotou scoring a leveller for Shots, following JJ Hooper’s first half strike and further goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Tom Adeloye saw Barnet to victory. Earlier this season, the two teams met at The Hive in a match shown live on BT Sport. Barnet’s first half lead was cancelled out by Mo Sylla’s debut volley, but Rob Hall won it for the Bees late on, with a fine finish from distance.
WHO’S THEIR GAFFER?: 41-year-old Dean Brennan is Head Coach (Caretaker) of Barnet. Brennan, an Irish (Dublin) former player, has previously managed; Hemel Hempstead, Billericay, Kingstonian and Wealdstone, prior to joining Barnet, initially, as Head of Football, in June 2021, overseeing Harry Kewell’s brief spell in charge. Following Kewell’s sacking in September, Brennan took charge of the Bees and until recently, had averaged over 2 points per game since taking the helm.
BEES PLAYING SQUAD:
Just eight players remain at The Hive from last season. They include Defenders Ben Nugent & Ben Richards-Everton, plus midfielder Wes Fonguck and Forward Ephron Mason-Clark. The twenty new arrivals at The Hive this season include; Keeper Sam Sargeant and Defenders Jamie Turley & Joe Widdowson (all from Leyton Orient), Midfielders Josh Payne (Ebbsfleet United) & Mitch Brundle (Dagenham & Redbridge) and forwards Adam Marriott (Kings Lynn/Eastleigh) and Mason Bloomfield (Hartleppol United). Brennan’s two most recent signings are; Full Back Teddy Howe (unattached but recently ex-Blackpool) and Midfielder Sam Woods, who has signed a long-term deal after leaving Cystal Palace.
Josh Payne played 6 matches on loan at Aldershot Town from Oxford United in 2012, before joining permanently for one season, making a further 26 appearances and scoring one goal.
