MATCH PREVIEW: AFC Totton v Aldershot (A) (Pre-season)

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

AFC Totton were founded in 1886 and are based in Hampshire They are currently members of the Southern League Division One South and are nicknamed “The Stags”. Totton play at the Snows Stadium.

HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?

Last season AFC Totton finished sixth in the Southern South, just one point behind Bristol Manor Farm in fifth place and subsequently missed out on a playoff spot by one point.

HOW HAVE WE GOT ON AGAINST THEM IN THE PAST?

We have only met Totton once, during a pre-season clash in preparation for the 2017/18 season. The Shots managed to pick up a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Shaun Okojie and Idris Kanu.

WHO IS THEIR GAFFER?

AFC Totton are currently managed by Jimmy Ball. Ball is most notorious for his spell for his time managing Forest Green Rovers in the 2020-21 season, following the sacking of Mark Cooper. During his brief spell, he took Forest Green to the play-offs in League Two, but ultimately fell short to Newport County.

Ball also spent a brief spell as a First Team Coach at Stevenage before departing after a couple of months to join AFC Totton in March 2022.

TOTTON PLAYING SQUAD:

Scott Rendell, Mike Green, Charlie Kennedy, Michael Carter and Luke Hallett have all joined the Totton team for the upcoming season on free transfers. Hallett is joining the squad from League One side Forest Green Rovers having spent last season on loan at Gosport Borough alongside Carter who captained Gosport last season. Kennedy has signed from Salisbury, former Shots striker Scott Rendell came from Havant and Waterlooville and Mike Green joins up with the squad as a free agent.

ANY EX-SHOTS?

Totton new signing Rendell played 116 times and scored 33 goals for Aldershot in a spell between 2016 and 2019.

Rendell’s new strike partner Brett Williams also turned out for Aldershot. He ended his career at Aldershot with 39 goals in 93 games.

Combined, the strike pair scored 72 goals for Aldershot throughout their time at the club.
