Shots Sign Daggers’ Howell

Aldershot Town have signed midfielder Luke Howell from Dagenham and Redbridge.

The 31-year-old, who has played in the Football League for Gillingham, MK Dons and Lincoln City as well as the Daggers, made 36 appearances last season and in total played almost 200 matches for Dagenham & Redbridge across two spells.

Having begun his career with The Gills, Howell went on to be a part of the MK Dons sides which won the League Two championship in 2008 and reached the League One Play-Off semi-final a year later. Prior to his return to Dagenham & Redbridge, Luke also spent one season with Boreham Wood.

“As soon as I knew the gaffer was interested, this was the place I wanted to come. Having played against Aldershot Town a few times I knew about the Club, their style of play and the fanbase, so it was an easy decision,” said Luke. “When you’re in a team that plays to your strengths, it brings the best out of you, and that was a big factor in why I came here. Everyone loves the way a Gary Waddock team plays, and it feels like a natural fit for me.

“I like to get the ball down and play, and I think I can bring some experience to the team. I’ve played a lot of games in the Football League and at this level, and I’ve been quite successful, so I hope I can help secure promotion, which is what everyone at the Club is aiming for.”
