We can unfortunately confirm that two more of our first-team squad have suffered long-term injuries during pre-season.
The injury Josh Brooking picked up in our first pre-season fixture at Badshot Lea has been confirmed as an Achilles rupture. He has undergone surgery and begun his recovery but will miss the majority of this season.
Olly Scott has suffered a setback in the shoulder injury he sustained last season. Recovering well, he made it on for the final few minutes of our Isuzu FA Trophy win but after an innocuous aerial duel in training, Olly’s shoulder re-dislocated and he has now undergone a second surgery.
The pair join four Shots already on the long-term injury list. Ollie Harfield is continuing to work hard and whilst he is progressing well, has a long road still ahead. Ashley Akpan recently underwent a second surgery after rupturing his ACL. Luke Jenkins also ruptured his ACL and is making good progress. Supporters may have seen Ryan Jones running before our pre-season fixtures and he is also progressing well as he looks to rejoin full training soon.
Tyler Frost, Kwame Thomas, James Henry and Dejan Tetek picked up knocks towards the end of our pre-season and are therefore doubtful ahead of our season opener this weekend.
As ever, we fully support the rehabilitation of our players suffering from long-term injuries. We’re proud to see the hard work they’ve been putting in and will be behind them throughout their recoveries.
