Shots Receive Armed Forces Bronze Award

Aldershot Town are delighted to receive the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant Bronze Award, in recognition of our support for local Garrison personnel – and are already well on our way to qualifying for the Silver Award!

The Armed Forces Covenant, established in June 2013, is a promise between the nation, government and the Armed Forces to treat serving personnel, veterans and their families with fairness and respect. Companies, charities and local authorities can sign the Armed Forces Covenant and make their own promise to support the Forces in ways of their choosing. Over 1500 companies have now publicly pledged their support to the armed forces community by signing the Covenant.

The Shots were the first football club to sign the Covenant, in May 2014, and in November 2015 led all 68 member clubs of the Vanarama National League in signing at a ceremony in the historic Wellington Conference Room on Horse Guard’s Parade in London.

Criteria for receiving the Silver Award includes employing at least one individual from the Armed Forces.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the Club, and this award is testament to how strong that bond has become,” said Aldershot Garrison Commander, Lt Col Nigel MacGregor. “I know our troops really appreciate the support of their community, and particularly such a high-profile organisation as our local Football Club.

“The Club have recently begun using the Garrison’s excellent sporting facilities as their training base, which is of benefit to both parties, and we hope that our partnership continues to develop for years to come.”

Shots Chairman Shahid Azeem said: “In representing the home of the British Army, it is our duty and honour to support our service personnel and their families. The links that we have forged with the Army has been one of the highlights of my time at the Club. Working, in particular, with the Army FA, Defence Infrastructure Organisation and Aspire Defence Services has been of huge benefit to both parties, and galvanised both the Club and local military. This award is the next step in cementing our relationship.”
