From The Boardroom – Brian Bloomfield

If you didn’t buy yesterday’s edition of our award-winning matchday programme, here is the regular From The Boardroom column, with Director Brian Bloomfield…

As we now proceed to the closing stages of the season there is still a lot to play for and it’s important that we have a strong finish and climb the table.

However the results don’t lie, just 20 points from the last 21 games (pre-FGR) tells us what kind of season we’re having; and it’s fair to say from all points of view it’s been at times a struggle. It’s not nice having a fourth season in a row of being at the wrong end of the table and the facts are we cannot afford to be in this position next year as the business model of running a full-time team will not sustain it.

Yes we have had some good results but as fans we will all look back on the season with a sense of frustration as opposed to one that will go down in the lexicon of Aldershot Town history. In any business the buck stops at the top and it’s no different here at The EBB. The Directors have to wholly be accountable for any apathy amongst the supporter base as we are here to run the club for all and everyone has a right to say how they feel when they’re not happy.

Coming out of administration and having a third season of financial prudence means that at least the club is viable and on a level footing. We make our decisions based on making sure the club survives, however most fans don’t just want survival they want something more tangible and that is something your board is gearing to deliver.

Next season will be crucial not only to set a high benchmark on the pitch but also one off it. As a club we are now at a crossroads and if we do not collectively kick on then we will continue to flounder and the support and club will wither away. This cannot be allowed to happen.

As a board we are actively not only looking for and gaining new investment but also ways of pushing the club into a more sustainable position for the long-term future. We hope to achieve all this over the next few years and in doing so bring the supporters and club closer together for the benefit of all.

Over the next few months and leading into next season there will be changes around the club that will help in its development. Some changes you will hardly notice, but some will be very fundamental in how the club continues to progress on a sure footing and deliver the opportunities to develop its positive expansion.
