Wealdstone v The Shots: Match Preview

The Shots continue their pre-season preparations on Saturday with a visit to Grosvenor Vale to face National League South side Wealdstone.

Kick-off is 3pm, with admission priced at £8 for adults, £4 for concessions (65+ and students with valid ID) and just £2 for Under 18s. Grosvenor Vale is located in Ruislip, at postcode HA4 6JQ.

Bobby Wilkinson’s Stones finished 11th last season, and drew 0-0 with Maidenhead United in another friendly on Tuesday night. That followed two 1-0 away wins, against Marlow and Swindon Supermarine, and a 3-3 draw at Bracknell Town.

Former Shots striker Bradley Bubb scored the winner against Supermarine, as well as the opening goal against Bracknell, and he is joined in the Stones squad by another two ex-Shots, in defender Glenn Wilson and midfielder Sam Hatton.

Hatton arrived at Grosvenor Vale in May, from Staines Town, and is one of Wilkinson’s ten summer signings, which also include former Reading defender Jake Sheppard, Watford Academy graduate Connor Stevens, former Ebbsfleet United defender Yado Mambo, and ex Luton Town and Woking midfielder Godfrey Poku.

Wilkinson was appointed Stones manager in August 2017 and has since brought several players with him from his previous club, Hungerford Town, in Rhys Tyler, Luke Williams, James Clark and Stefan Brown. As well as centre-back Wilson, the Stones can boast vast experience in the likes of team captain Sam Cox, a former Barnet midfielder, ex Preston and Aberdeen midfielder Jeffrey Monakana, and former Stevenage defender Jerome Okimo.

Gary Waddock is again expected to field a team featuring several trialists alongside his first-team squad members as The Shots play their third pre-season friendly, following a 4-0 victory against Leatherhead and Tuesday’s defeat to Oxford United.
