Vanarama’s Fanarama! The supporters have their say on 2019 – and what lies ahead in the New Year!

Shots supporter Brady Hill gives league sponsors Vanarama the lowdown on the year, hopes for 2020 and why the club means so much to him:

We’re nearly at the half-way stage – sum up the season for us so far:
It has been a challenging first half of the season. Danny Searle has made a few good signings. The likes of Max Hunt and Jack Powell stand out. Overall, there is still a long way to go to become the finished article, however we have made a lot of progress so far and over the first half of the season, I believe that we have shown that we are more than capable of staying up which would have been the goal at the start of the season, whilst we are in a re-building process.

Danny Searle was new in at Aldershot in the summer, what have you made of him so far?
I have liked the appointment of Danny Searle so far. He has got us playing some good football and it is clear to see that he is building something great at our club. He is a young manager not long in the job, but he has shown that he is more than capable of taking this club where it wants and deserves to be.

Pick your National League title winner (and what makes them so good)?
At the current stage of the season, I would pick Barrow as my National League title winner. When you look all over the pitch at their squad you find quality. They have two of the top scorers in the league in Scott Quigley and John Rooney. At this point in time, I can’t see anyone who will stop them as they are comfortable in grinding out results when they need to, whilst being ruthless in attack when things go their way. It’s safe to say that when you play against Barrow this season, you are in for a really tough time.

Your club’s player of the season so far?
Without a doubt it has to be Ethan Chislett. He has shown he has what it takes to play in the EFL. Calm under pressure and tough to get the ball off, he has been a vital member of the squad this season. He’s also scored and assisted a few too – I wouldn’t be surprised if some clubs higher up came calling in January.

Season high point so far?
It has to be the 4-0 home win over Dover. At the time they had the best away record in the league, and we were dominant from start to finish. It was a complete performance from back to front and everyone did their job superbly. For me no other moment has been better than that night this season.

Away days: what one sticks out and why?
Stockport away is the one that stands out this season. Going into the game we were not expecting to get anything out of it, however for the first half we were dominant. The Stockport fans were great and the team performance on the whole was one of the better performances that we have had this season.

Why did you first start following the club and how did you first get involved?
I have been following Aldershot ever since my first match in 2004 when my grandfather took me to my first match. It was a home game against Burton Albion, and we won 3-0. After the game I knew I wanted to keep going as it was a really enjoyable experience. Ever since that day I haven’t looked back. There have been highs and lows, but at the end of the day that’s football and what makes it great. I’m so grateful that my grandfather took me that day because I don’t know what I would do without being able to go and support my local club.

What makes Aldershot so unique and so special?
The thing that makes Aldershot so special is everyone involved with the club. From the players to the fans, everyone knows how much this club means to everyone. The club is so close that you really get a family feel when you visit on a matchday. Also, everyone involved with the club has the same passion for club which makes Aldershot town truly special. The fans are second to none. It does not matter whether it’s a home game or a long away day to Hartlepool, the fans will be there to support the club and be that twelfth man. We are one club and we stick together no matter what.
