Aldershot Town FC join the entire town in expressing our grief at the tragic death of two of the country’s finest young athletes this week, and offer our condolences to the friends and family of Stacey Burrows and Lucy Pygott.
In particular, we stand next to our sporting colleagues at Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletics Club. We recognise that sport and the pursuit of excellence can be a serious business, but simply doing what you love should never cost anybody their life.
Chairman Shahid Azeem has spoken to the Principal of Farnborough Sixth Form College – where the two teenagers were students – and offered Aldershot Town’s support in whatever way it may be required. Plans for further reflection and tribute at next weekend’s home fixture against Macclesfield Town are currently being discussed.
