Signing: Dan Holman

Aldershot Town have signed Colchester United striker Dan Holman on a loan deal until 22 November.

The 24 year-old, who joined The U’s from Braintree Town in the summer, has just completed another month-long loan with Wrexham, for whom he made four substitute appearances. Holman has made five appearances for Colchester this season, having been The Iron’s top scorer with 13 goals in the Conference in 2013-14.

The Northampton-born striker played for local sides ON Chenecks, Long Buckby and Moulton Magpies as a youth team player, before joining Cogenhoe United and, in 2009, returning to Long Buckby. Having scored 60 goals in 77 games for The Bucks – either side of a short spell at Oxford City – he moved to Conference North side Histon in 2012, where 29 goals again made him the Club’s leading scorer.

This record inspired Braintree Town to pay an undisclosed fee for Holman, who scored a total of 25 goals in 77 appearances at Cressing Road.

“We were looking to get Dan is before he went to Wrexham,” revealed Shots manager Andy Scot. “He’s got a proven goalscoring record at this level. He works extremely hard and is desperate to play football. He wanted this opportunity. He knows there’s no divine right to play but if he does well he will play games.

“We’re grateful that Colchester United have allowed him to play in the FA Cup, and I think that this will give everyone a lift, and show the rest of the squad that we’re making efforts to improve all the time. We have to work hard to make sure that things turn around. You sometimes have to make tough decisions, but as a manager I am prepared to do that.”

“I’m just looking to impress the gaffer and play some games,” explained Holman. “I want to work hard and do as well as I can while I’m here. I’m really looking forward to it, this is a big club, and hopefully I can score some goals. I play to score goals and I hope that I can show the gaffer that I’m worth my place in the team.”

Holman will wear shirt number 23.
