Shots draw Portsmouth in the FA Cup

Aldershot Town face a Hampshire derby against Portsmouth at Fratton Park in the FA Cup First Round, over the weekend of Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November.

Pompey, who won the FA Cup in 2008, are currently 14th in League Two. The Shots last met Portsmouth in a competitive fixture in the FA Cup Second Round in December 1982, when Les Briley and two goals for Dale Banton gave Aldershot FC a 3-1 away win.

“I’m delighted. It’s probably the biggest draw that we could have had,” said Andy Scott. “There’ll probably be nearly 20,000 fans at Fratton Park and I’m sure we’ll take a huge following. It’s a great opportunity to play a Club which won the Cup six years ago, and pit our wits against a Football League club, as well as obviously a massive financial boost for Aldershot Town.”

Full details of the tie, including ticket prices and The Shots’ allocation, will be notified as soon as possible.
