The award-winning Double Club, Aldershot Town FC Community Trust’s sport and education initiative, has returned for 2015!
The project offers children a 90 minute after-school session combining literacy and numeracy work with sports coaching from ATFC Community Trust coaches, including Shots striker Dan Fitchett. The coaches also provide support and encouragement to students during the academic lesson in the first-half of the session.
The participants, from years 5-6 and 10-11, are selected in consultation with their school as students who enjoy sport and would benefit from extra tuition.
Initially piloted in conjunction with Aldershot’s Connaught Secondary School in 2011, the project received national recognition in 2012 with a Literacy Action Net Award which praised the increase in academic attainment for its participants.
