“We’re Gutted – But That’s Football” – Chairman Shahid Azeem

Chairman Shahid Azeem on last night’s Play-Off defeat and his optimism for the future…

“The pain of last night is still acute for all of us, and I know that includes Gary, James, the staff and every player in the squad. To get so close to reaching the semi-final and then have it snatched away from us hurts.

We are, as the cliché goes, ‘gutted’, but that’s football. We love the emotions which envelop every game, and unfortunately have to accept the lows to enjoy the highs.

Nonetheless, Gary and James have done very well to reach the Play-Offs for a second consecutive season in testing circumstances. Luck has maybe not gone our way – especially with injuries – and, having lost key players whose careers we have helped to develop, academy players had to be promoted to the first-team sooner than expected.

Still, though, they have produced good football and played a full part in many exciting matches, and we believe that the squad will continue to grow in stature under their leadership. Our attendances also continue to grow, and we hope that you have enjoyed this season, for all of its ups and downs.

The team and club as a whole are still trying to progress and keep moving in the right direction. Perhaps with a bit of luck, next year will be our year.

Thank you for your support. On behalf of everyone connected with the club I wish you a great summer, but I’m already looking forward to seeing you all back here next season!”
