NEWS: Reece Miller signs first team contract!

Exciting academy prospect Reece Miller has signed his first professional contract as he joins the first-team squad!

The forward has become a prolific goalscorer in the academy and is highly thought of at the club in addition to elsewhere.

The 19-year-old is from Aldershot himself and has been part of the academy set-up for much of his career so far.

He has also had spells at Reading and Watford before returning to The EBB Stadium where he has since been included in Danny Searle’s National League squad twice.

The club is delighted that he will be continuing his development within the first-team set-up where he will help the team push for a strong end to the season.

First-team Manager Danny Searle also spoke about Millar’s progression into the first-team as he looks to make his first appearance this weekend against Dagenham & Redbridge:

“He’s the first of many we’re going to be announcing to be honest with you, because we’ve got a good stock of players here.

“That’s credit to Ross (McNeilly) and the rest of the staff there but we need to make sure we’re protecting our assets.

“I don’t like referring to them as assets but unfortunately when clubs can just come and take your players with no permission or compensation coming our way, we’ve got to look after our own interests.

“Plus we believe they are good enough to make the steps and come and play for the first team.

“As for Reece, I really like him.

“There’s no secret about his past issues but he’s a boy and we’ve all made mistakes, difference is with other people, they don’t get caught.

“I think you look at his attitude since he’s been in the building, he wants a career in the game.

“He knows he was silly and I am a firm believer in second chances and he’s been nothing but been a consummate professional since he’s been in the building.

“For me, that’s the reward for him.

“We want him to be a part of what we’re trying to do and to add to that, he’s a very very good footballer.

“I listen to the fans singing to Ethan ‘he’s one of our own’, but Reece really is one of our own.

“He’s stood on the terraces, he’s a local boy and I’d love nothing more for him to come onto the pitch, score a few goals for us and hopefully we can help him get his career back to where he needs to be.”

Congratulations Reece!
