We’re very excited to have secured the signing of exciting young defender Luke Jenkins!
The Shots have beaten a number of clubs, including Football League interest, to Jenkins’ signature and the defender has signed a two-year deal.
Jenkins was pivotal to a Chelmsford side that finished second in the Vanarama National League South and his efforts earned a place in Vanarama’s National League South Team of the Season.
The 21-year-old’s form for the Clarets was also noticed by England C Manager Paul Fairclough who gave Jenkins his international debut alongside new teammate Ollie Harfield in a defeat to Wales C.
Jenkins progressed through the academy sides at AFC Wimbledon and in between a number of loans, made a handful of senior appearances – including three League Two games – for the Wombles before joining Chelmsford last summer.

Widdrington said: “As with lots of our recruitment, we have tracked Luke for some time and every time we checked on his progress we were impressed as he played a major part in Chelmsford City reaching the playoffs last season.”

“He’s an aggressive, front-foot defender who’s quick and can defend 1 v 1 situations well. He loves the art of defending – heading and blocking balls – which we felt we needed more of and he is also a great footballer; he can play from the back and fit into the style that we like to play.”
