We’re delighted to announce the signing of Josh Barrett from Kings Lynn Town subject to league and FA approval, on a deal until the end of the season.
The attacker will be familiar with the EBB Stadium, having spent a month on loan with the Shots during the 18/19 season.
Barrett worked with Tommy Widdrington at Kings Lynn, and having also played for Bristol Rovers and Coventry, will have played with a number of our first-team squad.
The 25-year-old arrives with international experience, having made three appearances for the Republic of Ireland Under 21s and after breaking through the youth ranks at Reading, went on to make 10 Championship appearances with the Royals.
Tommy Widdrington Said: “Believe it or not, I’ve never signed Josh Barrett as a Manager before.”
“As the Head of Recruitment at both Coventry City and Bristol Rovers I did the deals for the respective managers, before I then inherited him at Kings Lynn.
“I’m sure some will remember JB (Josh Barrett)’s short stint here on loan at The EBB in 2018, so will be aware of his qualities: He’s an excellent technical footballer with both vision and delivery suited to much higher levels of the game!”
“It’s been said by a few that I’m the only manager that “has got a tune out of Josh” as a first-team player, but I believe every player needs the support around them within a definitive structure to be able to flourish.”
“I think we have that going on here and look forward to working with Josh again – I’m sure you’ll join me in welcoming Josh to Aldershot Town FC.”
Head of Recruitment Jamie Hedges said: “He is a match-winner and a serious technician, his game is about creating and scoring goals.”
“He will add great competition to our attacking options and is desperate to kick himself on again.”
“Josh is a player myself and the staff know very well. We are all in agreement he has the talent and ability of above this level and we hope we can get it out of him here.”
Welcome to the Shots, Josh!
