McNeilly: Shots Must Rise To The Challenge

Aldershot Town take on top of the table Notts County at 3pm on Saturday, looking to bounce back after successive defeats over Christmas.

The Magpies sit atop the National League, having lost just once all season: away to Dorking. Luke Williams and Notts County come into the back of this fixture having won four of their last five games.

Going into this clash, Shots gaffer Ross McNeilly believes his side have a good opportunity to bounce back against one of the leagues best outfits.

The Shots boss said: “We’ve still won three in five, got clean sheets in three of those five – the sour taste of being beat by rivals is awful – but we want to bounce back”

“A team doesn’t win three in a row and not concede a goal and then suddenly lose two and become a bad side.”

“We want to get the disappointment of both the fixtures over the Christmas period out the way quick”

Looking ahead to Notts County, McNeilly says: “There’s a lot to play for and we need to bounce back fast”.

“They don’t come much tougher than 4th, 4th and 1st; it is a real challenge, but we rose to the challenge against Southend”

“This team can compete against all teams … they can be competitive and we need to be at our best against these (Notts County).”

The Shots have already been busy in the January window, bringing in Jake Hutchinson on loan from Colchester, and speaking on his new addition, McNeilly said: “Jake’s a goal scorer, he’s young, it’s not what people want to hear but when he’s 23/24 he’s going to be a league goalscorer.”

“He’s been on loan every season since he was 16/17 and he’s scored goals wherever he’s gone.”
