A first half goal from Blair Turgott was enough to seperate the two sides at the EBB Stadium, despite a dominant performance by the hosts.
Gary Waddock named an unchanged side for the first time this season after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Dover Athletic, even naming the same substitutes.
The Shots kicked on from Saturday and started positively, with Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong and Matt McClure forcing spilled saves from Lee Worgan.
Stones defender Simon Walton almost headed into his own net after a threatening cross from Lewis Kinsella, it was an important header too as McClure was lurking in behind.
Then against the run of play the Stones took the lead. Jake Cassidy cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot that was parried by Jake Cole, Turgott followed up the rebound and despite Cole’s best efforts to palm away the rebound the shot crept inside the far post.
Maidstone then ‘parked the bus’, but the Shots had all the chances in the second half with the Stones rarely crossing the halfway line.
Luke Wanadio went close on 51 minutes, cutting inside and unleashing a shot from the edge of the area that hit the side netting, with a portion of spectators thinking the ball went in.
Aldershot then hit the post. A corner was played short to Kinsella, he crossed it first time to Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong who brought it down and played it to Adam McDonnell and his shot came off the outside of the post and the Stones cleared.
Sub Dan Holman then went close twice. Firstly getting in behind a stubborn Stones defence, but his shot was straight at Worgan. He was then played a ball by McDonnell on the edge of the area, he spun and shot but the ball drifted agonisingly wide of the far post.
McDonnell then had a great chance to level the score in stoppage time. Dominic Bernard’s cross was flicked on by Holman to McDonnell at the far post, the Irish midfielder then scooped a ball back over his shoulder and over Worgan in goal only to see Will De Havilland head off the line as it was about to creep in at the far post.
That result meant that Maidstone leapfrogged the Shots as we drop down to 19th, but two positive performances to take into our journey to Hartlepool United on Saturday.
