The points were shared as the Shots were held to a goalless draw against York City at the EBB Stadium.
The first chance of the game came from York City just 11 minutes in. A Through ball was met by Tyrese Sinclair on the right-hand side, however his shot went wide of the far post.
A minute later, another opportunity for the Minstermen arose. Ollie Pearce with a low pass to Ricky Aguilar just outside the box but fired his shot over the crossbar.
After stoppage time due to an Ollie Harfield injury, the Shots had their first chance on goal in the 21st minute. Rory Watson was mixed up with his own defender way out of his area and the ball fell directly to Josh Barrett, who clipped the bar from 35-yards out.
In the 28th minute, the Shots had another close chance. A through ball from Ashley Akpan was found by Hady Ghandour down the right but his cross was too heavy to be met by Barrett in a dangerous area.
Four minutes later, the Shots were inches away from a goal. Theo Widdrington sent a low pass to Barrett who rounded the keeper but tapped the ball wide of the post.
The visitors had another chance in the 38th minute, a bundle of bodies in the box led to a deflected shot but Marcus Dewhurst managed to get an unbelievable touch to it.
Almost immediately after, a Minstermen corner led to in the Shots box but the visitors’ header was blocked by another brilliant reaction from Dewhurst.
In the 46th minute, Akpan played a great through ball to Byrd who squared it to Ghandour but was claimed by Watson before he could reach it.
The final chance of the first-half came from the visitors. Ashley Nathaniel-George’s was found at the edge of the box but his curled shot went wide.
HALF TIME
The Shots had the first opportunity to go ahead in the 48th minute, as Widdrington controlled the ball to the edge of the box, but his effort went wide.
Another chance for the Shots arose just six minutes later. The ball fell into the path of James Henry, whose left-footed strike curled left of the woodwork.
A few moments later, the visitors were close to a dangerous attack. A through ball found Nathaniel-George just outside the box but his shot was kicked away by one of their own players.
Just before the hour mark, the hosts were close to going ahead. A deep cross from Akpan was headed down by Henry and was met by Barrett down the left hand side, but his effort was denied.
In the 64th minute, another chance came from Olly Scott. A fired shot from Ryan Jones was blocked and fell into the path of Scott, who saw his off-balanced effort go wide.
Seven minutes later, Mo Fadera attempted a chance for the Minstermen as his effort was sent flying over the crossbar.
The Shots continued to push for a goal in the 86th minute. A ball from Kai Corbett was met by Jack Barham, but his tapped shot was blocked.
Just before stoppage time, the Shots had another shot on goal. A low cross from Ghandour was just short of Barham, the ball was then collected by Ryan Jones who’s effort was straight at Watson.
Despite another few chances from both sides in stoppage time, the Minstermen managed to hold out the Shots right until the final whistle. However a goalless draw saw both teams leave the pitch with the points shared.
