MATCH REPORT: Woking (H)

First-Half

Both teams looked to start the game fast as a light drizzle descended upon the EBB. Pat Nash was forced into a low diving save to deny Oliver Sanderson, whilst the Shots looked to break with Ryan Hill setting off Ryan Jones. The former saw his pullback inside the box blocked out for a corner which was well dealt with by the visitors.

On the ten minute mark, Sanderson broke through the defence and found himself bearing down 1v1 with Pat Nash, the goalkeeper stood his ground and was able to get a firm hand to the eventual shot in front of the East Bank. Down the other end, Tyler Frost carved out space for a lobbed cross into the 6-yard box, with Kwame Thomas just being beaten to it by Caleb Richards.

Ryan Jones had a half-chance from distance, curling one into the hands of Jaaskelainen.

it was right on half-hour when the deadlock was broken. Ryan Jones again involved, taking a free-kick wide left of the Woking box. His lobbed delivery into a dangerous area was put back across the face of goal and into the back of the net by the head of Will Nightingale to put the Shots in front.

Just five minutes later, as Woking searched for an equaliser, Archy Taylor received a yellow card for a late challenge on Jamie Andrews outside his own box, the resulting free-kick was guided home by the head of Chinwike Okoli to level the score.

Chances continued to flow, Cameron Hargreaves catching a half-volley perfectly, demanding a big defensive block to stop it reaching the top corner. The midfielder picked up a yellow card in the next Woking attack, as he fouled the visiting attacker from behind, 15 yards outside of the box.

SECOND HALF

Woking should have taken the lead two minutes into the restart, a low, driven cross took several deflection en-route to the back of the net, but for an instinctual reflex save from the ‘Keeper.

Ryan Jones had the ball in the opposite net a minute later, but he had strayed offside before receiving it from Ryan Hill in the build-up. The Shots piled on the pressure with an expert counter-attack via Ryan Hill and Tyler Frost, who laid off Jones for the strike, which was deflected out for a corner.

Cam Hargreaves was next to go close, receiving a clever pass from Jones centrally inside the box. The midfielder hit a shot on the swivel and had Jaaskelainen scrambling to get across his net, but it went the wrong side of the post.

After the hour mark, Tristan Abrahams and Kiban Rai were introduced to the fray, replacing Archy Taylor and Kwame Thomas as John Coleman seeked to inject fresh legs.

Woking took the lead with 15 minutes to go, a simple combination ball unleashed the right winger through on goal, and his square pass was tapped home by Joshua Osude. From the goal, Pat Nash was seriously injured, and had to be replaced by Marcus Dewhurst.

In the final ten minutes, Theo Widdrington replaced Cameron Hargreaves, and James Henry replaced Tyler Frost. After the change, Dewhurst was forced to tip over a clipped shot from Matt Ward, central of his goal.

The Shots came so close to an equaliser in added time, with appeals of a handball in the box waved away, as somehow a snapshot within the six yard box sailed over the bar.
