Aldershot put on a performance to remember in front of the BT Sport cameras as they raced to a 5-1 victory over Halifax thanks to a double from Tyler Cordner and goals from Ryan Glover, Justin Amaluzor and Inih Effiong.
Dieseruvwe saw the first chance of the game in the third minute. After Tom Whelan was fouled, the referee gave The Shots an advantage which they failed to utilise ending with the Halifax striker able to give Luca Ashby-Hammond an early tester.
Aldershot’s first chance of course fell to Inih Effiong. A brilliant delivery from a deep Archie Davies cross fell to the feet of the striker but despite time seeming to go in slow motion, Effiong could only shoot straight at Sam Johnson, only for the assistant referee’s flag to raise.
The Shaymen’s number nine Dieseruvwe rose highest from a corner in the 21st minute as he continued to look dangerous however the ball bounced just wide of the post.
A brilliant run forward from Ryan Glover set Justin Amaluzor through but is effort was turned behind for a corner and from the resulting corner, Aldershot took the lead! Breaking free of his marker, Tyler Cordner almost broke the net with a powerful header.
But the visitors drew level just over 10 minutes later. Another header, it was of course Dieseruvwe who managed to head home from close range to get his side back into the game.
The Shaymen weren’t back in the game for long, however. A neat move by Aldershot resulted in a deep Ollie Harfield cross meeting the head of The Shots secret goalscoring weapon Tyler Cordner who headed home his second of the match.
HALF-TIME
It didn’t take long for The Shots to impose themselves on the second-half. A fantastic ball forward from Archie Davies set Ryan Glover free and the midfielder showed plenty of composure with an emphatic finish into the top corner to give Aldershot a third.
And they should have had a fourth not long after. A looping cross to the back post found Effiong who shrugged off his marker only to head wide across the face of the goal.
Aldershot were comfortable and it showed with their control of proceedings. But they weren’t done with just three. Justin Amaluzor won the ball back just outside the area and launched a fantastic effort in off the post to give The Shots a fourth!
Unfortunately for Effiong, it didn’t seem to be his day in front of goal. A sharp counter attack resulted in him being played in with plenty of space in the box by Justin Amaluzor but Johnson in the Halifax net pulled off a brilliant stop to deny him.
That was until he stepped up from 12 yards out! Archie Davies set off on a mazy run beating multiple Halifax defenders only to be brought down as he entered the penalty area. Effiong stepped up and duly converted to make it five for The Shots!
