MATCH REPORT: Shots 0-2 Halifax

Aldershot were knocked out the FA Trophy against Halifax, as strikes in either half from Millenic Alli and Harvey Gilmour were enough to send Halifax to the semi finals in a 2-0 loss for the Shots.

Ross McNeilly made four switches ahead of this fixture, with cup tied Oliver Pendlebury and Henry Ochieng as well as Morgan Roberts and Tyler Frost making way for Justin Amaluzor, Karoy Anderson, Josh McQuoid and new signing Myles Kenlock.

It was a quiet opening 10 minutes at the EBB, but Tyler Cordner got the home fans excited for the first time just after the 10th minute, as he got on the end of a Myler Kenlock free kick to plant a header right into the hands of Sam Johnson.

Halifax stuck first in the 12th minute, as a ball over the top found Millenic Alli in a position which looked offside, but the linesmans flag stayed down, and Alli put his shot low beyond Ashby-Hammond in the Shots net.

Justin Amaluzor almost got a leveller in the 15th minute, after he chased a good ball over the top from Kenlock and put it beyond Sam Johnson, but the ball trickled slowly towards the line, and Festus Arthur was able to clear for a corner.

It was becoming a tale of “almost” for the Shots, as Ryan Glover went close again. Some good work from Justin Amaluzor found Ryan Glover in a good position, and Glover opened his body and curled his shot past Johnson in the Halifax net, but rattled the post with his strike.

After the array of chances for Aldershot before the 25th minute, the chances began to come few and far between. Halifax hot the woodwork twice, but the Shots were the side controlling possession, but were unable to find a way through the low block of Halifax.

HALF TIME: Shots 0-1 Halifax

Ross McNeilly threw his first roll of the dice at half time, as Karoy Anderson made way for Tyler Frost. Frost almost immediately had an impact, as he found his way through one on one against Sam Johnson inside 10 seconds, but his effort was saved by the feet of Johnson.

The Shots were continuing in a similar pattern to the first half, controlling the ball and holding it around the Halifax box. The closest chance came from Tyler Frost, as he used his pace to burst into a good crossing position, and his cross trickled across the face of goal, out of the reach of Tahvon Campbell and out for a goal kick.

Aldershot continued to dominate, and Tyler Frost got the best chance of the afternoon in the 77th minute. Justin Amaluzor did some fantastic work to evade to Halifax midfielders, and slipped the ball through to Tyler Frost, who rattled the side netting with his effort from close range.

Halifax secured their place in the semi finals in the 88th minute, after a stray pass from Tyler Cordner went straight to Harvey Gilmour, and his effort from distance deflected over the diving Ashby-Hammond to give Halifax a 2-0 lead.

With less than five minutes on the clock, the Shots were unable to get back into the game, and their FA Trophy run came to an end in the quarter finals.
