MATCH REPORT: OLDHAM ATHLETIC (H)

The Shots secured a well-earned three points at home as a James Henry brace, second half goal from Tyler Frost and last minute Theo Widdrington penalty was more than enough to secure a 4-1 victory against Oldham Athletic.

The first chance of the first half came from the Shots just four minutes in. A ball from Hady Ghandour found James Henry but his fired shot was blocked.

Another great chance for the Shots came seven minutes later through Henry. He made his way through the oppositions defence into an clear path, but he curled the ball wide of the net.

After a quiet period of time, a chance for Oldham arose in the 37th minute through Mike Fondop who struck his shot just over the crossbar.

Almost immediately afterwards, the Shots made it 1-0. The ball was found in the path of Henry, as he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

Five minutes later, the hosts were close to doubling their lead. Theo Widdrington with a quick free-kick played through to Henry, the ball followed into the path of Ghandour who was forced wide and his effort was blocked.

The final opportunity of the first half came from the Latics, as the ball fell to the head of Jesurun Uchegbulam who sent his shot wide of the back-post.

HALF TIME

A couple of minutes into the second half the Shots had another shot on goal. Widdrington played the ball back to Henry who passed it through to Kai Corbett in the box, but his shot went high over the crossbar.

In the 51st minute, the Latics had a chance to equalise. As the ball fell into the path of Josh Kay but his effort was found safely in the hands of Marcus Dewhurst.

Just a minute later, the visitors had another opportunity to get one back through Uchegbulam who placed himself wide of the goal and his shot was pushed away by Dewhurst.

Another great link up between Ghandour and Henry led to the Shots doubling their lead in the 58th minute. After regaining possession through Tyler Frost in the oppositions territory, the ball was passed to Ghandour who crossed it across the right-hand side to Henry who struck the ball into the back of the net.

At the hour mark, Oldham made it 2-1. A cross from Regan Ogle was deflected off the body of Frost who was unfortunate to be in the pathway of the shot.

Eight minutes later, the Shots got another one back. The ball was played from Henry to Ashley Akpan down the right wing, as he sent a whirlwind cross that connected well with Frost who fired home from close-range.

Moments before the final whistle, the Shots were awarded a penalty as Ghandour’s shot was blocked by an Oldham hand. Widdrington was the man to step up to the spot, and his powerful shot secured his first goal from the penalty area.

Aldershot managed to hold on for the remaining seconds of the game and nothing came as a threat from the opposition, and the Shots secured their first three points at the EBB this season.
