MATCH REPORT: Dorking 0-3 Shots

Aldershot carried on their magnificent form under the guidance of Ross McNeilly and James Edmonds as they made it three wins in three games thanks to three goals!

The game started as a free-flowing encounter as was to be expected at Meadowbank and it was the hosts, Dorking, who had the first chance of the game. Justin Amaluzor went down holding his back and stayed down but play was allowed to continue and ended with Niall McManus heading against the bar.

Aldershot weren’t shy of their own chances but similar to the visit to Yeovil on Tuesday, were unable to really threaten Dan Lincoln’s goal. Tommy Willard had the best of The Shots opening chances as he raced through but the Dorking defence recovered well and did enough to force Willard into shanking his shot wide.

Luca Ashby-Hammond pulled off a big save to keep the score goalless. Ryan Seager found himself through on goal and you’d have been forgiven for expecting Dorking’s dangerman to open the scoring, but Ashby-Hammond did superbly to stand firm and deny the in-from striker.

As the game hit 20 minutes, The Shots were enjoying decent possession in the attacking third. From a subsequent corner, Tyler Cordner was presented a golden opportunity to find the back of the net again with a free-header which unfortunately blasted over the bar.

Aldershot took the lead in the 36th minute through Inih Effiong! Justin Amaluzor delivered an inviting, in-swinging cross from the right-wing which Effiong volleyed into the bottom corner with a lovely finish.

Inih and The Shots almost had a second not long later when the striker saw his shot drag merely an inch past the far post.

HALF-TIME

The first real chance of the second-half fell to Aldershot through another missed free-header but this time Tyler Cordner was the creator. In unfamiliar territory out on the left-wing, he delivered a lovely cross for Ryan Glover who despite being unmarked was unable to guide his glancing header goalwards.

Moments later, The Shots missed another golden opportunity. Effiong played provider with a dinked through ball to Frank Vincent who couldn’t beat Dan Lincoln from close range; the rebound fell to Tommy Willard but he kicked the ground instead of the ball and Dorking cleared the danger.

The Shots pressure paid off, however, as they got their second through Tyler Cordner! A cross from the left found Aldershot’s ‘goal machine’ who neatly flicked it in past Lincoln and in off the post.

Dorking pushed for a route back into the game as it drew to a close and began to put Aldershot under significant pressure. But, as Dorking pushed forward, they left space at the back and it was Tommy Willard who was able to exploit that space and grab his third goal in three games with another mazy run and cool finish at the death.
