MATCH REPORT: Chesterfield FC 2 Aldershot Town 1

The Shots fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Chesterfield FC after goals from Scott Boden and Liam Mandeville cancelled out Ethan Chislett’s first-half opener at the Proact Stadium.

Aldershot Town made three changes from the midweek defeat to Yeovil Town with George Fowler, Connor Shields and Aaron Eyoma making way for the returning captain Robbie Tinkler, Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong and Shamir Mullings all reinstated to the starting line-up.

The Shots made the better start of the two sides capitalising on a great ball from Jack Powell to allow Ethan Chislett to smash home in the 11th minute.

Powell’s ball down the left hand side saw Harrison Panayiotou put through and force a good save from Shwan Jalal but young Chislett was there to smash home for the game’s first goal.

Aldershot Town responded well and found their equaliser in the 40th minute after forward Scott Boden tapped in with a cute flick finish from just a couple of yards out.

This left scores even at half-time, however the Shots could’ve been straight back in front with two clear chances for Panayiotou to score, from both the penalty spot and through one-on-one.

The Shots would be left to pay for their missed chances after a clever flick saw Liam Mandeville put through on goal and ahead for the first time in the game on the 56th minute.

Despite falling behind, the Shots responded well and could’ve found themselves back on level terms had Berkeley-Agyepong’s effort curled a little more but unfortunately, bounced back off the post.

Aldershot Town again thought they had found themselves back on level terms in the 75th minute after Chislett’s delicate chip found Panayiotou who coolly finished past Jalal but referee Thomas Parsons chalked the goal off for offside.

There was time for late chances for both Mullings and Panayiotou to find an equaliser, but ultimately it saw Chesterfield who were able to pick up all three points as the Shots look ahead to their next away fixture against Chorley on Saturday.
