Aldershot Town fell to an unfortunate 2-1 defeat on the road at The Rare Breed Meat Company Stadium as a first half goal from Ryan Jones was cancelled out by a Kyrell Lisbie brace in the second half.
The Shots needed less than a minute to have their first shot on goal through Josh Barrett, but he wasn’t able to trouble Lucas Covolan in the Braintree goal.
In the 20th minute, some work from Inih Effiong to Matt Robinson managed to find Marley Miranda near the edge of the box, but his effort to find the bottom corner went just wide of the mark.
Seven minutes later, the Shots had another chance to take the lead. Kai Corbett played the ball through to Ryan Jones but he poked his effort past the post from a tight angle.
With just over half an hour played, the hosts had another chance to go ahead. A free kick delivered from the right-hand side by Chay Cooper led to a scramble in the box, before the ball eventually made its way to Louie Annesley, who headed it narrowly over the crossbar.
On the stroke of half time, the Shots took the lead. Theo Widdrington dinked the ball beautifully into the path of Ryan Jones, who fired a left-footed shot into the bottom right of the net.
HALF TIME
The first chance of the second half came from the Iron, as Kyrell Lisbie found himself with the ball just a few yards out but he couldn’t direct an effort on target, and Lachie Byrd was able to clear.
Just after the hour mark, Aldershot Town nearly doubled their lead. Corbett escaped his man before playing the ball across the box to Tyler Frost, but he couldn’t keep his effort down, and fired over the bar.
In the 70th minute, James Henry played a lovely ball inside to Corbett who unleashed a powerful shot on goal, but his effort was tipped over by Covolan.
Five minutes later, the hosts managed to make it 1-1. A cross from Cooper on the right-hand side met Lisbie’s path who fired his free header straight past Marcus Dewhurst.
With just under 10 minutes to go, the visitors nearly doubled their lead. Christian Maghoma made a surging run forward before playing a give-and-go with Jones and firing an effort goalwards, but it deflected off Jack Barham and wide.
Almost immediately after, James Henry sent a shot just wide of the opposition’s net.
In the 81st minute, Widdrington struck the ball from the halfway line and almost caught Colovan out, but he reacted quickly to retrieve the ball.
Braintree had another chance to take the lead six minutes later, Clampin played through to Lisbie as he tried to catch Dewhurst early but comfortably secured the ball.
As the clock reached 90 minutes, Braintree made it 2-1, and it was Lisbie who got his second as he turned the ball in from close-range.
The Shots continued to push for another goal in stoppage time, and came close right at the death from a corner, but Covolan was there to deny and secure the hosts all three points.
