A cold Tuesday evening saw a 10-man Shots side fall to an unfortunate 1-0 defeat against Barnet at the EBB Stadium.
The first shot on goal came from the Shots just two minutes in. The ball was met by Hady Ghandour who fired towards goal but his effort went straight at Nick Hayes.
Three minutes later, the Shots had another chance to go ahead. Cameron Hargreaves laid the ball to Theo Widdrington as he fired a shot at the edge of the box but it went just wide of the goal.
Almost instantly after, the Bees had their first chance of the game. Nicke Kabamba was found inside the box but his downward header bounced off Rollin Menayese, and the deflected shot fell into the hands of Dewhurst.
Another close opportunity for the visitors came one minute later. The initial effort from Kabamba was blocked but the ball fell into the path of Mark Shelton, who fired towards the goal but Dewhurst managed to get a touch sending the ball bouncing off the woodwork.
In the 26th minute, the visitors opened the scoring. A cross from Bailey Hobson was met by Kabamba who headed it into the far corner.
Just past the half hour mark, the Shots went to 10 men as captain Aaron Jones saw red due to a bad tackle on Idris Kanu.
In the 39th minute, the Bees tried to double their lead. The ball fell to the feet of Shelton, who sent a shot flying over the woodwork.
The last chance of the first half came from the Shots in added time, as a great run from Ghandour saw him find space just outside the box but his effort was seen wide of the post.
HALF TIME
In the first few moments of the second half, the Bees tried to double their lead. Hobson made a run down the right-hand side of the box and his effort floated over the net.
After a quiet period the Shots had a chance to level in the 70th minute. Ryan Jones delivered a long throw that was cleared back to him and his deep cross was headed wide by Jack Barham.
The remaining period of the game saw few chances for either side and, apart from claiming a few crosses, neither goalkeeper was called into action. Despite the Shots pushing for a chance to equalise, Barnet took away the three points at the full-time whistle.
