MATCH REPORT: Aldershot Town 3 Chorley FC 3

Aldershot Town finished with ten men and were held to an eventful draw by Chorley at The EBB Stadium on Saturday when they shared six goals equally.

Alex Newby put the visitors in front inside ten minutes before Craig Tanner equalised in the 16th minute.

Harry Cardwell restored The Magpies lead before Mo Bettamer levelled proceedings yet again before half-time.

Dean Rance put The Shots in front for the first time with six minutes to play, but it was Alex Newby who had the final say when he converted a penalty, given away by Robbie Tinkler for handball. The defender was sent off in the process as it was deemed deliberate by the referee.

Danny Searle made two changes from the win at Wrexham a fortnight ago. James Rowe and  Alex Finney replaced Jack Powell and Max Hunt whos loans have both ended.

Chorley had the first opportunity of the match within the opening minute when the ball fell to Nortei Nortey in the box, but his effort was skewed just wide, hitting the side-netting in the process.

It was still inside ten minutes when The Magpies took the lead. Alex Newby was found in the area following a kind ricochet before neatly poking the ball into the bottom right corner.

However, in the 16th minute, the away defence was opened up. Ethan Chislett found Mo Bettamer in a good position to drive into space. The striker then found Tanner in acres of space on his right-hand-side who sublimely curled the ball first-time past Matt Urwin.

Unfortunately, it was the visitors who regained their advantage nine minutes later. It was Cardwell this time who found a bit of space just inside the area. He shifted it to one side before firing into the bottom left corner.

The Shots soon levelled things up through Bettamer from a set-piece. Goalscorer Tanner whipped a free-kick in from the right-hand-side which evaded everyone but Bettamer who tapped in from point-blank range at the back-post.

Chislett found Panayiotou’s head 42 minutes in following some good build-up play by Dean Rance, but the forward was unable to get the power on his effort to trouble Urwin.

Panayiotou had a similar opportunity in the 57th minute, this time it was Bettamer who found him at the back post. However, the header was parried successfully by Urwin on this occasion.

Alex Finney did very well to deny Marcus Carver when he got his shot away on the left-hand-side in the 71st minute, with the defender able to divert the ball wide of his own goal.

The home team eventually took the lead for the first time in the match in the 84th minute. It was James Rowe with a corner from the left-hand-side which found Rance who headed in from close range.

Bettamer came close a few minutes later when he dipped a free-kick dangerously towards Urwin but the goalkeeper was able to parry it wide.

Robbie Tinkler was sent-off in the last minute for a handball in the last minute, giving Chorley a chance to equalise. Alex Newby stepped up and converted, despite Walker guessing the right way.
