Aldershot Town returned to winning ways as they beat Notts County 2-1 in the Vanarama National League at The EBB Stadium on Saturday.
Mohamed Bettamer opened the scored with a great header before Notts County equalised through Kyle Wooton.
Alfy Whittingham won the ball high up the pitch before finishing coolly to restore the lead before the break and the Shots were able to hold on for the second 45 minutes.
Danny Searle made four changes to last week’s disappointing defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge. Whittingham made his first league start of the season while Connor Shields, Bettamer and Lewis Kinsella also came into the starting XI, the latter returning from suspension.
The opening half-an-hour was competitive but lacked clear-cut opportunities for either side.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 27th minute through a Shots head, that belonging to Bettamer. A counter attack, led by Jack Powell, saw Shields have a chance up against Slocombe. The Notts County keeper parried it only as far as Powell who produced a sublime delivery from the right hand side to find Bettamer who directed his header into the top right corner.
However, the away side found an equaliser 10 minutes later. Michael Doyle drove the ball into the area before Wootton diverted the ball in under Walker from 12 yards out.
Regardless, The Shots reacted well to the set back and restored their lead with just two minutes left in the half. This time it was Whittingham who reacted sharply to hound Michael Doyle, win the ball off him, and put it into the back of the net at the goalkeeper’s near post.
The home team almost conceded in a scrappy scramble just a few minutes into the second period but the ball was eventually cleared.
Thomas had an opportunity from close-in at the near post with 53 minutes played but the ball went way over the crossbar.
A few minutes later Walker made a good save from Wootton which leads to a goalmouth scramble which The Shots keeper eventually grasped with a number of bodies around him.
Bettamer came very close to getting his second of the game with 15 minutes to play but his looping, deflected header was cleared off the line.
