MATCH PREVIEW: York City (H)

York City are this weekend’s visitors to the EBB Stadium as the Shots return home following two away trips.

The Minstermen will be making a 490 mile round trip south to the EBB from the LNER Community Stadium and are playing in their third season in the Vanarama National League since their promotion from the National League North in the 2021/22 season.

LAST TIME OUT

The previous meeting at the EBB Stadium was back in August of last year and the points were shared between the both sides on that occasion. The Shots took the lead in the last few minutes of the first half through Aaron Jones, however a late goal from Lenell John-Lewis saw the game finish level.

The last time both teams met was away at the home of York City, however the hosts were the side who snatched all three points as Lenell John-Lewis scored another late goal against the Shots.

SINCE WE MET

After their 1-0 win over the Shots in March, the Minstermen only lost two of their remaining league games. One of which was a defeat against Eastleigh and the other was the last day of the season against Solihull Moors.

Despite their run of form in the remaining games of the season, York City only managed to finish just outside of the relegation zone in 20th.

York have gotten off to a hot start this season, with their only loss being a 2-0 defeat at home against newly promoted Boston United. After their run of good results so far this campaign, they currently sit top of the table.

IN THE DUGOUT

The man in charge of York City is Adam Hinshelwood. The 40-year-old’s playing career was cut short through injury, but he made over 100 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion, before a short spell with the Shots!

His managerial career started with a brief stint at Hastings United and then a couple of years at Selsey, before he joined Worthing in 2013. Hinshelwood returned to Brighton as a first-team coach in 2015, but would return to Worthing not long later.

He led Worthing the Isthmian Premier Division title in the 2021/22 season followed by the Sussex Senior Challenge Cup the season after and his successes would earn him a move to York City in February 2024, keeping the Minstermen up at the end of last season.

FORMER SHOTS

Adam Hinshelwood – York’s Gaffer will be returning to the EBB Stadium having spent half a season with the Shots as Gary Waddock’s captain during the 2009/10 season in which he made 18 appearances.

Dipo Akinyemi – The striker spent just a month with Aldershot as he scored once in four games back in the winter of 2015 on loan from Stevenage.
