MATCH PREVIEW: Yeovil Town (A)

This Saturday the Shots will be travelling away to Somerset as they take on Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

The Shots will be making a 200-mile round trip in their visit to Yeovil since October 2022 as The Glovers make their return to the Vanarama National League after spending a year in National League South.

Just over 10 years ago the Glovers were in the Championship after winning the 2013 League One playoff final. However, they then suffered relegation in back-to-back seasons, before eventually falling out of the Football League in 2019.

They then spent the next four seasons in the National League before they faced another relegation into the National League South. However, last campaign they were automatically promoted back into the National League as Champions after just one season.

The Glovers currently sit in 14th place in the Vanarama National League table, with 14 points from their opening 11 games following a 0-0 draw with Sutton United on Tuesday night.

LAST TIME OUT

The last time both sides met was at the EBB Stadium in the 2022/23 season in what was Tommy Widdrington’s first game in charge of Aldershot Town.

The sides shared the points with the game finishing 1-1: After a quiet first half, the Shots opened the scoring as Tyler Cordner put the hosts ahead in the 50th minute but the Glovers didn’t take long to get one back as Callum Harriott scored the equaliser in the 65th minute.

Their previous meeting at Huish Park finished in favour of Aldershot as late goals from Giles Phillips and Tommy Willard secured a 2-0 win for the Shots.

IN THE DUGOUT

Mark Cooper is the man in charge of Yeovil Town and is now in his third season with the Glovers after being appointed as Manager in October 2022.

Cooper was unable to save Yeovil from relegation to the Vanarama National League South in the 22/23 season, but he led them straight back up to the Vanarama National League as Champions as his side stormed to the title with an 11-point gap over second-placed Chelmsford City.

Yeovil’s dominance earned Cooper the title of Vanarama National League Manager of the Year and the 55-year-old has experience getting teams out of the National League as he guided Forest Green Rovers to the Football League for the first time in their history in 2017.

FORMER SHOTS

Dominic Bernard – The defender is the only current member of Yeovil’s squad to have played for Aldershot Town. He spent the 2018/19 season on loan with the Shots from Birmingham City and made 36 appearances.
