Match preview: Yeovil (A)

The shots hit the road again for a Tuesday night clash with Yeovil Town, where they will look to get back to winning ways after rescuing a good point in the dying moments against Tamworth on Saturday.

Established in 1890, Yeovil are a side with deep rooted history in English football and were one
of the founding members of the National League when it was formed back in 1979. Over the
years the club has competed in 10 different divisions of the football pyramid, with their highest
position being a 24th placed finish in the EFL Championship during the 2013/14 season.

Since then, The Glovers have returned to the National League where they will be hopeful of
reaching the EFL divisions once again.

RECENT FORM

Tuesday’s opposition currently sit 15th in the Enterprise National League, just 2 points above The Shots after an average run of form. Alongside this was a hollow victory in the FA Trophy against a struggling Alvechurch side competing two leagues below them, where the home team were taken all the way to penalties before finally getting the job done.

14th Feb – Yeovil 1 – 1 Rochdale

11th Feb – Boreham Wood 3 – 2 Yeovil

7th Feb – Altrincham 0 – 1 Yeovil

31st Jan – Telford 0 – 2 Yeovil

17th Jan – Brackley 2 – 1 Yeovil

10th Jan – Yeovil 0 – 0 Alvechurch (FA Trophy, Yeovil win 3-1 on penalties)

As such, The Glovers will be looking to kickstart a better run of results on Tuesday night,
however this will not be easy against a currently in-form Aldershot side.

REVERSE FIXTURE AND PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The Shots have faced Yeovil a total of 11 times over the years with results ending in four wins,
three draws and 4 losses a piece. As such, Tuesday night will be a chance to claim bragging
rights between two very evenly matched teams.

In the reverse fixture back in September The Shots suffered a 4-1 defeat, a score-line that
perhaps didn’t reflect the performance in what was otherwise a tight game. A brace for ex-Shot
Tahvon Campbell helped seal the deal, with his former club undoubtedly eager for revenge
when the two teams meet again on Tuesday.

IN THE DUGOUT

Manning the dugout for the opposition is Billy Rowley, brought in from seventh tier side Walton
and Hersham to replace previous boss Danny Webb, who left the club after just one game in
charge. Recruited to help reflect the ethos of progressive, attacking football, Rowley is certainly
a statement signing from The Glovers showing that there is commitment to driving the club
upwards with a strong, modern style of play.

The proof of this lies in his time at Walton and Hersham, where he certainly played his part
during the back to back to back promotions achieved by the club in the last few years. While
only spending a short 18 months there, Rowley was able to quickly impress, steering the club to
a respectable 7th placed finish during their first season in the Southern Premier League South
Division.

Before getting into management, Rowley spent his earlier coaching career at Premier League
clubs Chelsea and Fulham developing young talent through the prestigious academy setups.
With an average squad age on the younger side at 25.3 years, there is no doubt that the Yeovil
boss will be looking to develop his squad of young players into a fearsome side.
