MATCH PREVIEW: Wealdstone

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

The Shots kick off bank holiday weekend by hosting Wealdstone at the EBB on Saturday at 3pm. The fixture is Aldershot’s second consecutive clash at the EBB, having been held to a point against York City last Saturday.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS?

Wealdstone were one of Tommy Widdrington’s first opponents at the end of last season, with the Shots travelling to the Stones at the back end of last season. At a time of the season when every point is crucial, it was Rochdale loanee Tahvon Campbell who scored the only goal in a big 1-0 victory for Aldershot on a Tuesday night in April.

The reverse fixture did not play out so kindly for the Shots. The game was opened by an impressive strike from Notts County loanee Frank Vincent, but two goals from Rhys Browne for the visitors gave Wealdstone all the points on the road at the EBB.

HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?

At times last season the Stones threatened to make the playoffs, but fell short come the end of the season. 60 points in 46 games for Wealdstone saw them finish in 13th place, 5 places and 7 points above the Shots.

Wealdstone played out a thriller in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, but after 8 goals were on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline against Boreham Wood. The Stones were knocked out at the first hurdle in the FA Trophy as well, this time losing 2-1 to Chelmsford City in the third round.

23/24 SO FAR:

An unbeaten start to this season means that Wealdstone come into this clash sitting 5th in the National League table. An opening day victory against York was added to by draws at Eastleigh and Bromley, and a second win came in dramatic fashion, as Nathan Ferguson equalised in the 86th minute, before former Shot Tahvon Campbell made it 3-2 in the 99th minute.
