The Shots make the trip to another of this year’s newly-promoted sides with a visit to the Lamb Ground to take on Tamworth.
The Lambs won last year’s Vanarama National League North to make it an impressive and truly fantastic back-to-back title winning rise from the Southern League Premier Division Central. Andy Peaks’ side picked up 96 points as they proved a lot of people wrong.
Founded in 1934, Tamworth have never made it into the Football League and their promotion last season saw them return to the National League for the first time since the 13/14 season. A further relegation in 2017/18 saw them drop to Step 3 but have made a quickfire return to the highest level of non-league football over the last two seasons.
LAST TIME OUT
It’s been 10 years since the two sides last met in one of just two meetings between Aldershot Town and Tamworth. The Lambs were victorious on that occasion in March 2014 with a 1-0 win, but it wasn’t enough to ensure their survival in the National League.
The only other clash between the two came just before Christmas 2013 and it certainly brought festive joy to the EBB Stadium as the Shots won 6-0!
Brett Williams scored twice as Manny Oyeleke, Mark Molesley, Aiden O’Brien and Jordan Roberts completed the scoring.
TAMWORTH’S SEASON SO FAR
Tamworth started the season with an impressive 1-1 draw with Sutton United but have failed to win a game so far this season.
A trip to York City ended in a 2-0 defeat and Hartlepool United left the Lamb Ground with all three points as Joe Grey scored a late winner for the Pools.
IN THE DUGOUT
Andy Peaks is in charge of Tamworth and has been in the Lambs’ dugout since February 2022. Originally hired to ensure Tamworth’s survival in the Southern League Premier Division Central, a 14 game unbeaten ensured safety in style.
Peaks has since guided Tamworth to back-to-back promotions as champions as they won the Southern League Premier Division Central on goal difference in 22/23, before storming to the Vanarama National League North title with two games to spare last campaign.
