MATCH PREVIEW: Stockport (Replay)

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

The Shots face familiar opposition on Wednesday night as they travel to Edgeley Park to take on Stockport in a second round replay. The original tie ended 2-2 following a brace from Josh Stokes as well goals from Neill Byrne and Paddy Madden for the visiting Hatters.

The game has been selected for live tv coverage on the BBC tomorrow night, with the winners earning themselves a trip to the Hawthorns to take on Championship side West Brom.

LAST WEEKEND:

Josh Stokes opened the scoring 10 minutes in at the EBB last weekend, however the joy was short lived as a wonder strike from Neill Byrne sent the sides into half time at 1-1. A very fast start by Stockport saw them take the lead through Paddy Madden just seconds into the second half, but Josh Stokes would have the final say, capping off a perfect counter attack for the Shots as the game ended 2 a piece and was sent to a replay.

REPLAY HISTORY:

Possibly the worst omen for the Shots is Stockport’s replay run last season. A 2-2 draw away from home against Charlton became a 3-1 victory at Edgeley Park for Stockport as they went into the third round via a replay last season.

2021/22 saw them pull off a similar story but at a different stage, drawing 2-2 with Bolton away from home before going on to beat them 5-3 at Edgeley Park in the replay, meaning if the Shots were to win at Edgeley Park on Wednesday they would be the first side to do so via a replay in the 2020’s.
