MATCH PREVIEW: Solihull Moors (H)

Solihull Moors visit Aldershot this weekend as the EBB Stadium awaits its first Vanarama National League fixture of 2025.

The two sides met just a month ago in a 2-1 defeat for the Shots and Solihull’s strong recent form has seen them climb into the playoff places, currently occupying 6th position with 41 points from their 25 games.

Those 25 games have seen them pick up 12 wins, 5 draws and 8 losses, with joint-top scorers Conor Wilkinson and Jack Stevens’ 12 goals contributing.

RECENT FORM

As mentioned above, Solihull’s form since Jack Stevens’ last-minute winner against the Shots a month ago has been impressive with four wins and one draw from their previous five games; all of which have been in the Vanarama National League.

Two of those five games have been away from home but one of those was the only game in which the Moors dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Maidenhead United.

As a result, Solihull come into this weekend’s game off the back off winning their last three games.

  • 31/12/24 – Solihull Moors 2-0 Tamworth
  • 26/12/24 – Boston United 0-1 Solihull Moors
  • 21/12/24 – Solihull Moors 4-1 AFC Fylde
  • 14/12/24 – Maidenhead United 1-1 Solihull Moors
  • 10/12/24 – Solihull Moors 2-1 Aldershot Town

IN THE DUGOUT

Andy Whing is the man in charge of this evening’s hosts having occupied the dugout at Damson Park since the beginning of the 23/24 season.

In his one full season in charge, Whing took the Moors to Wembley twice as they fell to defeat in both the FA Trophy final and Playoff final in a penalty shootout.

LAST TIME OUT

Also mentioned previously, The Shots’ last meeting with Solihull Moors came just a month ago at Damson Park.

Conor Wilkinson gave the home side an early lead but Jack Barham’s second-half header turned the tide and it looked like the Shots would be the side to go on and win only for Jack Stevens to score a fantastic strike from outside the area to snatch all three points for Solihull.

The last meeting at the EBB Stadium finished in a draw as Cian Harries’ late penalty cancelled out ex-Shot Tahvon Campbell’s opener.

SINCE WE MET

With our last meeting against Solihull just a month ago, most of this has been covered in the Recent Form section – Solihull are unbeaten in the four games since last month’s meeting.

A draw with Maidenhead United followed, but Solihull beat AFC Fylde, Boston United and Tamworth in the next three games to come into this game having won three on the bounce.

FORMER SHOTS

Laurie Walker – The ‘keeper made 10 appearances in the Shots’ goal on loan from MK Dons during the 21/22 season.

Tahvon Campbell – Another player who spent time at the Shots on loan: The striker scored three goals in nine games at the end of the 22/23 season.
