MATCH PREVIEW: Shots v Southend

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Aldershot’s second of two fixtures on the road see’s the Shots travel to Roots Hall Football Stadium to take on Southend this Saturday. The Shots are currently sat in 17th and 2 points off Halifax having played a game more, and 4 points off Maidenhead, with a game in hand over last Tuesday’s opponents.

HOW HAVE THEY DONE THIS SEASON:

Southend are in 9th position heading into this fixture, having been in the playoff positions as recently as the 28th of February. The Shrimpers are now 7 points adrift of Eastleigh in 7th, but have two games in hand over the Spitfires.

Southend are out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy, having made it three rounds in the FA Trophy, losing to York City in the fifth round. The FA Cup warranted no success for Southend this season, as like the Shots the Shrimpers were knocked out in the fourth qualifying round.

LAST TIME OUT:

The previous clash between the two sides came in November, when Southend visited the EBB. The game was one to remember for the Shots, with Corey Jordan and Justin Amaluzor grabbing goals in a 2-0 victory over a Southend side who were in sat in 5th place before kick off.

Aldershot’s last trip to Southend was a day to remember as well, as second half goals from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mohamed Bettamer added to a first half own goal from Jason Demetriou to give Aldershot a 3-2 victory on the road.

Of the sides last four domestic meetings, Aldershot have won the two aformentioned games, with the sides also drawing later last season, and Southend picking up their only win in the last four against the Shots in League Two on the 16th April 2013.
