MATCH PREVIEW: Shots v Gateshead

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

The Shots return to action at the EBB this weekend as Gateshead travel down to face Aldershot. A team of the week performance from Tyler Frost and a penalty from Joe Partington saw the Shots pick up a win on the road last time out, also making it three unbeaten in the league following draws against Torquay and Maidenhead. Gateshead currently occupy the final relegation spot, with the Shots currently sat nine points ahead of the Tynesiders in 17th.

ROSS MCNEILLY PRE-GAME:

Ross McNeilly was reflecting on the victory last time out in his pre-match interview, and said:

“I thought we were excellent up there, we got at them and we played really well.”

“It needs to be more of the same.”

While looking ahead to the fixture, McNeilly was also praising two of the players shining away from the Shots this week; Tyler Cordner for England, and Tommy Willard on loan at Farnborough.

Speaking about Cordner, McNeilly said: “You talk about development of people, and he’s really come on as a leader.”

“He’s a really important member of our group.”

He also spoke about Willard, who scored a hat trick for Farnborough on his debut, saying: “I’ve known Tommy (Willard) since he’s been in the academy, so I’m really pleased he’s doing well.”

HOW ARE THEY DOING THIS SEASON?

As mentioned above, Gateshead are currently occupying the final relegation spot in the National League, but are within touching distance of Dorking and Yeovil, with two games in hand over both sides and with four points separating them and Yeovil in 19th.

In the FA Trophy, Gateshead have progressed to the semi-finals, and will face Barnet on April 1st for a shot at Wembley. The FA Cup saw them work hard to get past Altrincham in the fourth qualifying round, but the first round saw them lose out to Stevenage.

LAST TIME OUT:

It was a win and a clean sheet as Shots travelled to Gateshead back in early December. The goals came in the second half, as Ryan Glover and Justin Amaluzor gave the Shots fans something to celebrate in a victory which came either side of wins against Southend and Welling.
