MATCH PREVIEW: Shots v Eastbourne

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Tommy Widdrington’s Shots continue pre-season preparations, playing a second away fixture at National League South side Eastbourne Borough. Aldershot got underway last weekend in Badshot Lea, as an impressive display from Maxwell Mullins saw the Shots pick up a 3-0 victory on the road.

HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?

Eastbourne came 8th in National League South this season, just one place and three points outside of the playoffs, ending the season on 71 points. Eastbourne went through two rounds to make it to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, but were eventually beaten by National League Maidenhead. The FA Trophy saw them exit in the third round, losing to Bracknell Town 2-1.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

The Shots and Eastbourne met in FA Cup qualifying action in 2016, with Eastbourne coming away with a victory in that game. Jamie Taylor’s opening strike was cancelled out by Idris Kanu in the 69th minute, before Nathaniel Pinney scored in the 90th minute to send Eastbourne to the first round.

THE NEW SHOTS:

Three new faces have arrived since last weekend’s victory at Badshot Lea, with keeper Jordi van Stappershoef, Zain Walker, Coby Rowe and Lorent Tolaj all joining the ranks at Aldershot

Jordi van Stappershoef has been on trial with Aldershot, and was given a permanent contract before the clash at Eastbourne. van Stappershoef has made appearances in the Dutch Second Division and League One, and will be adding a season at Aldershot to his resume.

Zain Walker has worked with Tommy Widdrington previously at Kings Lynn, and signs for the Shots after becoming a free agent. He has also played for Chippenham and Bristol Rovers, and comes with Football League experience.

Coby Rowe is a centre-back who played 29 times for Sutton United last season in League Two, scoring 3 goals in the process. Rowe has been at Sutton since 19/20, and made the most appearances in his career last season.

Lorent Tolaj scored 44 times at under 18 and under 21 levels for Brighton and FC Sion, as well as scoring 11 goals at youth level for Switzerland. The Swiss international played 11 times for Salford last season, and also has appearances for Dundee FC and Cambridge United.
