MATCH PREVIEW: Shots v Altrincham

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

The Shots final game of the 2022/23 Vanarama National League season comes at home to Altrincham, as the Robins travel to the EBB for the later kick off time of 17:30 on Saturday. The game gives Tommy Widdrington the chance to end his season on a high, with the Shots currently unbeaten in five under Widdrington.

TOMMY WIDDRINGTON PRE-MATCH:

The Shots secured safety last season in York, but Widdrington will keep the squad at 100%: “There’s less pressure on it, that’s all, we still want to turn up and put a performance on and win a football match, all I’ve asked the players to do is to think about the next game.”

Leading on from this, Tommy Widdrington suggested there could be chances to impress, but the squad will largely remain similar, saying “For some of them it’s an opportunity to get onto the pitch and show me what they can do in a match.

“I won’t be making huge changes just for the sake of it.”

Finally emphasising the point that finishing the season strongly is important, Widdrington said “If we can finish higher up the table by winning it on Saturday then we’ll be doing our best to do that.”

HOW HAVE THEY DONE THIS SEASON?

Altrincham are currently sitting 15th in the National League table, having picked up 55 points from 45 games this season.

The Robins were eliminated in the FA Trophy at the semi-finals by FC Halifax Town, and in the FA Cup, were knocked out by Gateshead in a fourth qualifying round replay.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Shots previous encounter with Altrincham this season was a largely forgettable afternoon, as a Tom Whelan red card and a Ryan Colclough penalty in the 75th minute meant ten-man Shots fell to a 1-0 defeat on the day.

FORM GUIDE:

0-3-2

The Robins have played 5 National League games since the FA Trophy exit, and have picked up 3 draws against Oldham, Dagenham and Torquay. Of the two losses, one was at home to Gateshead, and one was away to Dorking, where they were defeated 3-2 by Marc White’s side.
