MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic (H)

Oldham Athletic are this weekends visitors to the EBB Stadium as the Shots return home following two away trips.

Known as the Latics and formed in 1895 as Pine Villa FC, they became Oldham Athletic four years later and have been playing their games at Boundary Park since 1904.

Oldham have had two very successful spells in their history, though one was over 100 years ago, and have reached the FA Cup semi-finals three times, and finished runners up in the League Cup – in the same season as one of their FA Cup semi-finals despite playing second tier football that season!

Founding members of the Premier League, Oldham’s opening game of the 1992/93 season was away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as The Shots hosted Clapton in the Isthmian League Division Three.

LAST TIME OUT

The two sides met in March as the Shots secured a 2-0 victory at the EBB Stadium thanks to goals from James Daly and Tyler Frost. You can catch up on the highlights from that game by clicking HERE

The earlier clash between the two sides last season came in matchweek two as Oldham raced to a 5-1 win at Boundary Park.

OLDHAM’S SEASON SO FAR

Oldham currently occupy fourth place in the Vanarama National League table and are yet to lose a game.

The Latics started the season with a 3-0 win over Braintree Town at Boundary Park with goals from Jesurun Uchegbulam, Harry Charsley and Mike Fondop. A late own goal from Wealdstone at Grosvenor Vale gifted Oldham a 1-0 win a week later, followed by a 1-1 draw at home to AFC Fylde on Tuesday night thanks to a Manny Monthe goal.

IN THE DUGOUT

Micky Mellon is the man in charge of Oldham Athletic, having taken the job in October 2023 following the dismissal of David Unsworth.

Mellon’s most notable spells in management have seen him earn double promotions with Fleetwood Town (National League North to League Two) and Tranmere Rovers (National League to League One).
